GLDCoin (GLD) is a new crypto currency which was released in may 2013. The aim of GLDCoin is to make it possible for small time miners to also get their portion of coins, instead of the usual process a coin undergoes. Whenever a coin gets popular, the big guys with tons of Mh/s rigs jump on the coin, which tends to raise the coin’s difficulty. It then becomes so hard for small time miners to get some coins that they are discouraged to mine them. GLDCoin offers a solution to that: They give bigger block rewards in the beginning, so more people can enjoy some coins. Then later, when the coin is generally accepted the block rewards go down.
GLDCoin will have a total amount of 100 million coins in circulation, and it will become harder to mine when more and more blocks are found. The more blocks are found, the harder Goldcoin will become to mine. Here are their block rewards:
1 – 200 Blocks – 10000 GLD
201 – 2200 Blocks – 1000 GLD
2201 – 26200 Blocks – 500 GLD
26201 – 48700 Blocks – 400 GLD
48700 – 173700 Blocks – 200 GLD
173701 – 673700 Blocks – 100 GLD
The current block at the time of writing this is 14891, which means that you will get 500 Goldcoins per found block at this time. The GLDCoin source code can be seen/downloaded from their github page here: https://github.com/gldcoin/gldcoin
The official GLDCoin-Qt can be downloaded from their official website. This site will be upgraded soon, in which I will update this page.
Great article & good description. Thanks for supporting gldcoins!
