Several rumors popped up today that Netflix will be accepting Bitcoin as a payment option very soon. The rumor got started by Max Keiser, who posted this Tweet after the news came in that Zynga would accept Bitcoin as a way of payment for in-game purchases: “I broke story that Zynga will take BTC several months ago. Here’s the next big story. Netfllix is thinking about going BTC”.
Netflix is a website that gives you instant acces to almost any movie or TV series that has aired, for a very small monthly fee. Their membership numbers have exploded in 2013, and 2014 seems to become an even better year, when Netflix adds BTC as a payment option.
If we think about it, this would make perfect sense for Netflix. They offer a fully digital service, which are online movie & tv series streaming, and you can pay for it using a fully digital currency like Bitcoin. For company’s like Zynga who’s sole profit comes from in-game purchases: A $2 payment will get eaten by a $1 payment fee. With Bitcoin they get to keep the whole amount. In the forthcoming months, more and more websites who offer digital content or services will start using BTC and they will be surprised how easy to use it is.
