Overstock.com has just integrated Bitcoin payments on their website, after announcing in December that they would do that around q2 2014. This makes them the first major online Retailer to accept the digital currency. CEO Patrick Byrne says “When I first head about Bitcoin I felt I had tipped my hand. I didn’t want someone else to beat us”. This is the reason that Overstock takes the lead as the first major online retailer to accept Bitcoin.
Overstocks sells almost everything, from Laptops to Watches & Jewelry. They ship worldwide, so this news is huge for Bitcoin’s growth. With millions of new customers worldwide discovering the digital currency right now, we expect to see a firm price rise. Overstock uses Coinbase to process the payments, and checking out looks something like this:
Technically speaking you can say that you can now buy almost anything you want with Bitcoin, Literally. We predicted that Overstock would accept the currency earlier this month here. We listed 3 major retailers that will probably start accepting Bitcoin in 2014, and Overstock.com was one of them. We hope that this movement will show other online retailers the ease of accepting & integrating Bitcoin payments on their website.
