Keeping your BTC in a stable wallet is most likely a high priority for you. You wouldn’t want a cryptocurrency wallet that crashes, loses backups or that causes you to re-download the full blockchain again, would you? There are 3 types of wallets that we will talk about today: One for on your Computer, one that is hosted on the Web, and one that is put on Paper (Yes, you’ve read that right).
1. MultiBit
MultiBit is a Bitcoin computer wallet, for Mac or PC. It is also a lightweight client, which means that it does not need to download the blockchain when you start it. This saves you of downloading a file of about 12 GB, which gets bigger everyday. This is ideal for people with a slow internet connection, or people that pay per MB browsed. You can easily send and receive Bitcoins by using this program, and it has a lot of features, like showing a currency ticker with your value of BTC converted to USD, or any other currency. You can also easily export and import your wallet details to make or restore backups. This is great, because you don’t have to worry about losing your coins if your computer crashes. This wallet can not be used for mining.
2. Blockchain.info
Blockchain.info is in our opinion the best Web based Bitcoin wallet available. They have a great security (2 Factor Auth), apps for both iPhone and Android, and sending and receiving BTC is instant if the recipient also has a Blockchain wallet. If you have an existing wallet, you can easily import it to your account, and your account can easily be connected to your phone, to pay with Bitcoins everywhere you go!
3. Paperwallet
Paperwallets are meant to be used as long term storage wallets, so these are not ideal for sending and receiving BTC. However, they are the most secure option for storing them over a very long time. You can generate a paper wallet on this website. Because tamper-resistant paper wallets are minimize your exposure to hackers or other people that you are surrounded with. Just be sure to store the paper in a safe place, where nobody can find it except you.
