The year 2013 has ended, and it has been a great year for Bitcoin. For those of you who can’t wait to see what 2014 will have in store for Bitcoin, we take a trip to the future!
2014 will be the year that Bitcoin will be globally accepted by websites & stores all over the world. Even now you see sites popping up that accept the digital currency by default. There is a big chance that you have came across a site that you didn’t know, that takes Bitcoins. This will be more and more the case in the forthcoming year. Apart from websites, physical stores will also start accepting the crypto currency more & more. Solutions like the Coinkite terminal & Bitpay make it easy for any business owner to start accepting Bitcoin in no-time.
We predict that paying for content with Bitcoin will become a hype in 2014, and recently dutch newspaper NRC has announced that they will offer their articles for the equivalent of 10 cents in BTC. This will get taken over by other newspapers as well, which will raise the public awareness of the benefits of Bitcoin.
The infrastructure around Bitcoin will be another thing that will become a lot more solid in 2014. Big hedgefunds & investors are putting their money on services that power the BTC ecosystem, like the recent investment in Bitpay by asia’s richest man, Li Ka-Shing. We will see a lot more of that support coming towards exchanges, payment processors, secure wallets & other products.
Ofcourse this goes on par with a big fat price increase as well. According to the majority of Bitcoiners the price will reach a value of $10,000 this year. Some investors from Wall Street have even said it could go as high as $100,000, and Bitcoin investor Cameron Winklevoss predicted a price of $40,000.
This year will also be the first time that Governments can’t deny the existence of crypto currencies anymore. I think that we will even see an acknowledgement of some sort that Bitcoin can be used as an official currency by some Governments this year, and some attempts to regulate the currency for the better.
We will also see an all time high difficulty and hashrate, because of new miners joining in, and new mining technology’s being created. We have recently reached the 11 Petahash milestone, and I think that at the end of 2014 we might see 50 Petahash or more. This also goes for Litecoin, with Scrypt Asics being released this year.
As you can see, 2014 is going to be a very interesting year for Bitcoin & Litecoin! We hope to bring you more good news this year, and we hope that you, our loyal readers, will stay with us!
